The Percept Team — Storage Experts
Data Storage Testing and Verification
Drawing from years of in-depth data storage testing expertise, Percept’s staff is able to handle the challenges and demands of testing all types of data storage devices and systems including tape drives and libraries, disk drives and arrays, and storage virtualization systems. Percept’s engineers offer both breadth and depth of storage testing expertise, understanding the many nuances of testing key data storage technologies.
Percept specializes in Design Verification Testing (DVT) for all major types of data storage devices. This comprehensive storage DVT includes:
- interface standard verification; iSCSI, SAS, Fibre etc.
- device specification verification
- performance testing
- functional testing
- device configuration and management interface testing
- stress and exception testing
To assure the widest possible coverage, we use a combination of custom and off-the-shelf software and hardware tools in the course of testing.
Here is a sampling of data storage devices and systems that Percept experts have tested:
- Tape Drives - VXA, DAT, VSTape, SDLT, LTO, STK9940, IBM3592
- Tape Libraries - Exabyte, ADIC, Overland, BDT, STK
- Disk Drives - Seagate, Maxtor, Cornice, Quantum
- Disk Drive Systems/RAID - DotHill, LeftHand, Overland
- Storage Virtualization Systems - Overland REO
Device testing is supported with the following key storage interface expertise:
- Parallel SCSI-2 & SCSI-3 - a long proven standard interface and command set used for transferring data between various devices on a common bus. Percept offers both protocol and command level testing for SCSI devices. Most of the testing is supported through custom test script suites running on off-the-shelf and custom host adapter boards (HBA).
- iSCSI - a protocol used to transfer SCSI commands over a TCP/IP network. iSCSI enables any machine on an IP network to connect with a remote dedicated server to perform block I/O commands as it would do with a local hard disk. All of the Percept functional tests used for SCSI device functional testing are available supported seamlessly for iSCSI testing.
- SATA - a low cost serial communication bus designed primarily to facilitate data transfer to and form a hard disk. Percept supports custom ATAPI command level testing with standard SATA HBAs, as well as SATA command and protocol testing using Catalyst tools.
- Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) - a new type of SCSI physical interface, designed to transfer SCSI commands in a serial fashion, over the standard SATA connection. Percept supports both command and protocol level SAS testing.
- Fibre Channel (FC) - high speed fiber or copper serial interface which has become the standard connection type for storage area networks (SAN). Just like iSCSI, all of the Percept functional test suites are supported for FC device testing.
Additionally, Percept offers:
- HBA and motherboard compatibility testing and verification for selected vendors.
- Complete management of your WHQL testing and certification needs for storage devices.
- Access to Percept's library of over 80 proven test scripts and specialized testing environment.
- Custom Test Script Development, with expertise in UNIX and Windows environments.
- Secure, controlled test labs for your product testing.
