SCSI Testing
SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) is a standard that describes methods for connecting computers to various devices. Over the years SCSI has grown to include both standard command sets for various devices, as well as the methods for interconnecting devices (i.e. parallel SCSI). SCSI has also evolved to keep up with the demand for faster data communications (up to 640Mb/sec in the latest iteration), and has become a standard interface in most professional environments for attaching storage devices .
Percept Technology Labs delivers specialized SCSI testing at both the command-level and protocol-level, as well as interoperability testing.
- Command-level Testing – Using custom test tools, Percept runs systematic tests to verify that the target device executes SCSI commands correctly. Percept test tools support both disk and tape device testing with a collection of exhaustive test scripts. This testing assures that all required and optional commands are being communicated and executed as required by SCSI standards. Any potential problems discovered during testing can be addressed and fixed, preempting expensive field problems and customer satisfaction issues.
- Protocol-level Testing – In addition to command-level testing, Percept is able to test the SCSI link at the protocol level. Using specialized tools, our experienced staff is able to simulate protocol errors and verify that systems are able to recognize and recover link-level exceptions as they occur. This type of testing allows Percept to exercise additional functionality not covered during the regular course of testing, that may have significant influence on the stability and robustness of the data subsystem.
- Interoperability testing - Percept can also verify that SCSI devices function correctly with the wide variety of SCSI equipment currently available on the market – assuring seamless integration into the customer environment, and avoiding product launch surprises and future support problems.
